Sustainable egalitarianism not only has always existed, but is the essence of the Homo Sapien Sapien species. Indigenous social organisation on every continent share many common features:

1. No private property (property publicly used for production, such as farming equipment; different from personal property for private use, such as toothbrushes).

2. Land belongs to everyone.

3. Conflict is resolved through dialogue and negotiation, and if necessary, consultation with the elders.

4. Leaders are chosen by the people for their knowledge and wisdom and have no more material wealth than anyone else; leadership roles are not inherited. 5. People are educated from a young age, through traditional stories and mythology, to avoid and disparage selfishness and egoism.

The aim can not be to "return" to such lifestyles (and many of the societies who organise along these lines are anyway contemporary), but learn from the vast knowledge of the myriad of pre-"modern" cultures, liberate existing groups so they can prosper as they did before encroachment of the property owners, and allow ancestral deep understanding of ourselves and of the world inform the high tech communist future to come.
