Privileged members of the "creative classes" such as myself are not the only people blessed with creative potential: EVERYONE are. When i wait in line at the supermarket, watching the cashier mechanically repeating the same motions for 8 hours each and every day, I am immensely saddened by the cruelty of mind-numbing, dehumanizing labor. Many nomads today, such as the San in the Kalahari, living in the most arid parts of their former habitats to where they have been pushed, during the most difficult season of the year, work at the very most 20 hours a week to gather food and build shelter, etc, and spend most of their time making music, dancing, telling stories, inventing games to play. The farmers of the Scottish highlands famously enjoyed a life of leisure, music, and wine, before the English capitalists came and destroyed their "lazy" way of life with brutal wage slavery which massively profited the owners of industry. No, automation is not the answer, or only a small part of the answer, because the absence of high technology was never the problem which created meaningless miserable human toil: it was capitalism, feudalism, and all labor relations under the indefensible and senseless ideology of private property which siphoned wealth upwards. This is the reason for communism: humans, all humans, not only a few lucky ones, are on this earth to 1. discover and 2. to create, and must be liberated from the slave conditions which prevents the majority from doing so. BILLIONS OF LIVES must be freed from forced drudgery, from being thrown into the waste-bin of history, like rubbish. Imagine the wonderful world to come. – He Zhao 2018
